14th National Health Research Forum

23rd.-25th October 2024 and The 9th Pre-Conference Annual Adolescent Research Day

Conference room at Crown Plaza Hotel, Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR

Theme: Addressing the pressing need for collaborative, multidisciplinary research to enhance our understanding of emerging diseases in the context of climate change

The National Health Research Forum (NHRF) is an annual event organized by the Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute with its partner research Institutions namely the Lao-Japan Health Research Consortium, the JICA_SATREPS at IPL, the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS), the UNFPA in Lao PDR, and other national and international research collaborators.

This 14th NHRF will focus on collaborative, multidisciplinary research related to 1) Food and water-related diseases, 2) Diet quality and diversity, 3) Biodiversity loss, 4) Mental stress, 5) climate and air pollution, 6) One Health, 7) Immune-mediated diseases (asthma, allergies, autoimmune diseases, and cancers)/immune-mediated none communicable diseases (IMNCDs) (Hypertension, allergies, diabetes, and dementia.

The forum will gather internal and international public health researchers, epidemiologists, social scientists, health economists, practitioners, and other experts in the field of environmental health and health research development who share a passion for exchanging ideas and analysis in the various fields of research concerning the impact of climate change. We believe that this forum could significantly contribute to the elimination of some communicable diseases that emerge in the region as well as in Lao PDR by 2030.

The 14th NHRF will establish effective links between the policy/political level, public health institutions, relevant sectors outside health, health aid agencies, and civil society organizations.

The Annual Adolescent Research Day (ARD) was established in 2016 under the Noi 2030 framework as a joint initiative by Lao TPHI and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Lao PDR. The ARD is held before the annual national health research forum, as a one-day conference with a specific theme related to adolescents. It provides a platform for researchers, policy-makers, and development partners in the Greater Mekong Sub-region to unite, share existing research, and collaborate on generating new evidence.  The overall goal is to fill the gap and build the knowledge and evidence on adolescents 10-19 years old for promoting evidence-based policies and comprehensive interventions that are vital to achieving the well-being of all adolescents in the region.

Each year the Annual Adolescent Research Day (ARD) focuses on different topics since 2016 such as focusing on SDG 3 (Good health and well-being) with the theme <Transition to adulthood: the importance of Adolescent Reproductive Health>. In 2017 it focused on SDG 2 (End hunger) with the theme <Nutrition and Reproductive Health from a Life-Cycle Perspective-Closing the Adolescent Data Gap to Achieve Sustainable Development>. This year’s ARD will focus on SDG 3 (Good health and well-being) and SDG 5 (Gender equality) with the theme <Gender inequality and Sexual and reproductive health right>.

Date: The pre-conference 9th Annual Adolescent Research Day (23rd October 2024) and                                        the 14th National Health Research Forum (24th -25th October 2024) will be dedicated to oral and poster presentations, keynote speakers, Policy dialogues, and key stakeholder panel discussions.
