History

has been established in 1999 by merging research activities of the council of medical sciences (CMS) with training activities of the school of public health (SPH) as a national focal point for health research and training activities in Lao PDR. After a decade of its founding, NIOPH has a national and international renowned institute for research and training. Today, Referring to the Prime Minister’s Decree on the organization and activities of Ministry of Health No 2979/MOH dated 06 December 2017, NIOPH has rename to Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute (Lao TPHI) has role as chief of operation to the Minister of Health in promoting, managing, performing research, development of personnel in health management, tropical medicine and international health towards the Promotion of the health of the population multi-ethic groups.

Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute (Lao TPHI) has comprises of 5 departments with 31 executive staffs including a Director General, 1 Deputy Directors General, 21 technical and 8 administrative staffs.

  2. Department of Coordination & Research – Information Management.
  3. Department of Health Pollcy and System Research.
  4. Department of Food and Nutrition research.
  5. International Program for Health in the Tropics
